2020 will see the biggest ever changes to the QBSA Junior Development program, with a focus on providing support and development for Juniors who have a desire to become great Adult, and even professional, billiards and snooker players.
To do that, we will be having two day Junior Development Sessions in both the April and September school holidays. Juniors of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend.
Day One will consist of some form of tournament event or practical drill session, as well as a dedicated Q&A Session for parents to raise any concerns and ask any questions.
Day Two, while being open to all juniors at all skill levels, will focus on the more advanced points of the game and will include topics such as video reviews, nutrition, sports phycology, etiquette and more.
Our Junior Development Sessions will be headed up by the Queensland State Director of Juniors, Daniell Haenga and assisted by QBSA President Nate O’Connor and QBSA Committee Member Belinda Dinga. Special guests may also be invited with more details available closer to the days.

The Queensland Junior State Titles will be held during the July School Holidays and will align with the new National Age Groups of Under 12’s (Snooker), Under 16’s (Snooker and Billiards) and Under 18’s (Snooker and Billiards). The winners of each State Title will be selected to play in the Queensland Team at the following Australian Junior Nationals Team Challenge, normally held in January.
Our age group cut-offs will now also align with the National event, as the State Junior Championships are the qualifiers for the Teams Challenge.
We will be changing how the State Juniors Titles have previously been run. Each Junior will need to nominate one snooker and one billiards age group to compete in, and will no longer be able to play in multiple age groups for the same sport. All players who nominate will be invited to play in the State Junior Championships for their selected age group.
Changes have also been made to the QBSA Junior Sponsorship program. Previously, the QLD State Junior Team were funded $5000 and this was split equally between the players and the Team Manager. This will not be the case moving forward. Being selected for the State Junior Team will no longer guarantee Sponsorship.
Sponsorship will now need to be applied for via an application and we will have minimum requirements to be able to apply and be considered. The current minimum requirement is that a Junior must attend Day 1 of each of the Junior Development Sessions in the same year.
Juniors can boost their Sponsorship application and chances by attending all days of the Junior Development Sessions, playing in the QBSA Club Leagues, and playing in other Queensland events such as the QLD Residents and QLD Opens.
QBSA Junior Sponsorship applications will open after the September Junior Development Session and will close on October 31st, will all applicants being advised of the outcome shortly after.
There is now an unofficial Facebook Group for QLD Juniors, to discuss and ask any questions. If you wish to join the group, please request access here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QueenslandJuniorSnooker/
