2019 was quite a year for the QBSA. We can only describe it as a rebuilding phase, sorting through the rubble that had gathered and trying to find the foundation to rebuild upon.
We believe we have found that foundation and 2020 will be the year that we start building the new QBSA.
In order to help us achieve our vision and goals in 2020, the QBSA will need to switch its focus and operate more as an Administrative State Governing body, instead of a club with no venue.
We plan to only hold 6 main events in 2020. These include:
- 2020 Dr Clem Jones AO Queensland Open Snooker Championships.
- 2020 Queensland Women’s Open Snooker Championships.
- 2020 Queensland Open Billiards Championships.
- 2020 Queensland Residents State Snooker Championships.
- 2020 Queensland Women’s Residents State Snooker Championships.
- 2020 Queensland Residents State Billiards Championships.
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we will also be holding multiple seasons with the newly revamped QBSA Club Leagues and we will also be implementing a new State Junior Development Program.
We will support and encourage clubs to hold their own Snooker and Billiard tournaments and will help the clubs promote their event via our website, Facebook and mailing list. Any event that meets the soon to be released Queensland Playing Conditions, will be sanctioned to receive QLD Ranking Points. If you have an event to promote, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can assist.
By reducing the workload and removing the focus to simply run events, the QBSA will now be able to focus on growing and developing the sports. We will also work to support our affiliate clubs and players by applying for Statewide Government Grants and building corporate partnerships that will benefit all.
More details on our planned changes will continue to roll out over the coming weeks and months, including changes to the State Coaching Program, and we encourage any of you to contact your club’s committee to email us any feedback or questions you may have.
The 2020 QBSA Calendar of Events is now available and can be viewed here, https://qldbilliardsandsnooker.asn.au/calendar/, and we aim to give plenty of notice for players to enter these events.
Thank you all for your continued support and here is to a great 2020 filled with change for the better.
